AVID MEDIA ACCESS / AMA – Plug-Ins for RED, HDCAM, GFCAM, Canon, XDCAM, P2 and More
![]()

Starting in version 5.5, the Avid Media Access (AMA) plug-ins are not installed when you install the software. They have to be added manually (except for the QuickTime plug-in). You can find them here: http://www.avid.com/US/products/Avid-Media-Access/plug-ins (opens in new window).
Why? – Avid states: "Starting with Media Composer 5.5, Symphony 5.5, and NewsCutter 9.5, you will need to install any AMA plug-ins you want in addition to your software (AMA plug-ins are no longer included in the installer except for the QuickTime plug-in). This enables Avid and third-party camera manufacturers to update plug-ins outside of a software release."
See what AMA plug-ins are installed on your system:
- Launch your Avid editing application.
- Open the Console: TOOLS menu and select CONSOLE
- In the text entry box at the bottom of the console window, enter the following: AMA_ListPlugins
- Hit Enter and a list will be generated.
